Papers: Boss sees red

Fergie rage as Scholes sent off
Alex Ferguson blasted ref Andre Marriner for sending off Paul Scholes at White Hart Lane. The former England midfield ace will now miss next week's Manchester derby after picking up two yellows. But United manager Fergie claims Scholes was dismissed because of his reputation alone. A furious Fergie fumed: "It was a ridiculous decision. He's been sent off because his name is Paul Scholes. That is why he was sent off." Scholes got his first yellow for hacking down Jermain Defoe after 50 minutes in Saturday's 3-1 win over Tottenham. Then he was shown a second card nine minutes later for a rash challenge on Tom Huddlestone.

Elsewhere, there's plenty of praise for another United midfielder, Darren Fletcher, after another top-drawer performance. Jamie Redknapp gushes about the Scot in The Mirror under the headline "Ferocious Fletch", while Steve Howard does the same in The Sun ("Fletch Is A Real Dazzler").

Writing in The Times, Tony Cascarino says: “United went 4-4-2 and Spurs were duly beaten. I don’t know why Sir Alex Ferguson would choose any other formation when Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney look so effective in this set-up.”
