Roo bet he'll score soon

Alex Ferguson has backed Wayne Rooney to end his 13-match goal drought. The Manchester United and England star has not scored since the second minute of the Champions League tie at Bayern Munich on March 30. Rooney, 24, has gone 1,076 minutes without a goal as he goes into Sunday's clash at Fulham. But club gaffer Fergie said: "Wayne is one of the best strikers in the world. He is still young, still progressing and still learning. When players get to 26 or 27, that's when you start to see a mature player who is edging towards the peak of his powers. I hope we see that with Wayne."

Elsewhere, the Daily Express quotes Rafael van der Vaart as saying he would only leave Real Madrid if he could join United - read more about this and other transfer rumours in our rolling feature, The Gossip.
