Papers: Battle for Balotelli

United and City in tug of love for Balotelli
Mario Balotelli has sparked a Manchester tug of war after opening the door for United and City to sign him. The agent of Inter Milan hotshot Balotelli is set to fly in for talks with both clubs about a £30m move to Manchester. And the teenage striker, who has three years left on his contract, has given both United and City hope as they battle for his signature. Balotelli, 19, played under Roberto Mancini at Inter and described the City boss as a great friend. And he labelled United a great club after being asked about speculation surrounding his future.

Wayne Rooney features in a couple of newspapers. The Daily Mirror publishes Arsene Wenger's reflections on the World Cup, leading with "England blew it by relying on Rooney". However the Arsenal manager doesn't name the United striker; his quote merely reads, "The countries which relied on their stars were wrong."

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph suggests Wayne's "disappointing summer could get worse this week when the England striker discovers whether he is liable for up to £4.5 million in compensation owed to his former management company." The newspaper explains, "Rooney is being sued for alleged unpaid commission on his commercial earnings, and judgment is finally due to be handed down on Thursday in Manchester."
