Papers: Bruce eyes Welbeck

Bruce's Manchester shopping trip
Sunderland are closing on a deal for Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck and are prepared to match Manchester City's valuation for defender Nedum Onuoha. Steve Bruce has turned to 19-year-old Welbeck, who spent last season on loan at Preston North End, and is hopeful of tying up a deal before taking his Sunderland squad to Portugal next week. - Daily Mail (online)

There are plenty of player quotes in the papers, many of them taken from ManUtd.com's stories on Ryan Giggs wanting the title back and Paul Scholes possibly playing on beyond the end of 2010/11.

Fellow midfielder Darren Fletcher is quoted on the Daily Mirror website on his desire to follow the veterans' lead by sticking around at Old Trafford. The Scot says, "If you are lucky enough to stay, you will have played at the top for your whole career and it does not get much bigger than Manchester United. Everything about the club makes it the place you want to be. No-one really thinks about leaving when you are here.”
