Papers: Rooney's roar

Bring on the Germans!
Wayne Rooney last night roared: Bring on the Germans! The England star says he would love to face Joachim Low's side in the last 16 - and knock 'em out. Rooney reacted defiantly as the war of words between the two bitter rivals intensified here in South Africa. He was confronted by a German journalist at the England training camp and asked if he would like to meet the Germans in the last 16. And quick as a flash our Roo replied: "Of course. It would be nice to beat them." Rooney also let rip at German legend Franz Beckenbauer, who has accused Fabio Capello's men of being a kick and rush team. He rapped: "We don't listen to him. We know how we play and it's not kick and run." Rooney slammed the cocky Germans for being so arrogant after beating Australia 4-0. He added: "It's how you finish a tournament and not how you start." And Rooney promised: "We'll win our group."

The Independent also profiles Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez, reporting the clamour in Mexico for United's new signing to start his nation's clash with France this evening.

It seems United are no longer seen as a contender to sign Valencia winger David Silva, with widespread reports that the Spaniard wants to come to England, but will end up with Chelsea or Manchester City.
