Federico Macheda made a mistake for Villa's second goal, but then made up for it with a cracker of a shot that offered his team a way back. I like Macheda. He's got lots of promise, talent and hunger and it looks as if he might be coming back on to the scene after injuries disrupted his development. He likes playing against Villa. The Gunners' shock home defeat by Newcastle has been followed by wins at Wolves and Everton. The Gunners are a point ahead of United, who lie third.

Match of the Day pundit Alan Hansen talks about the new faces in this week's England squad in The Independent and while he airs his concerns about the future for the Three Lions, he says of the newly called-up Chris Smalling: "He clearly has a chance of developing into a top defender."
