Papers: Roo's Messi aim

The Telegraph reports...

Rooney aims to emulate Messi

Wayne Rooney admits that he expects to take his game to a new level this season, even targeting Barcelona's Lionel Messi as his benchmark. "Messi is a great player and rightly World Player of the Year," Rooney said. "I think not just for me, but for every footballer out there, that’s the target you want to try to get to and hopefully I can do that. I know I can always improve, so if I keep working and practising, I can do that. I don’t set targets for myself, but it would be nice if I can get through the season injury free."

Sticking with 'Wazza' and the striker's name was the most popular on the back of Premier League replica shirts sold last season. Rooney beat Fernando Torres into second place, according to Sporting ID who quoted the figures in The Sun and other newspapers.

Also, David Beckham says he would only ever play for United in the Premier League. The LA Galaxy midfielder told The Daily Express: "The Tottenham thing didn’t happen for a reason. I only want to be known as a Manchester United player and that’s the way it will stay."
