Macheda set to join QPR
Queens Park Rangers are today set to complete the signing of Manchester United striker Federico Macheda on loan until the end of the season. Rangers boss Neil Warnock has been looking to reinforce his striking options for some time and has singled out Italian Macheda, 20, as one of the men he wants. Under-21 international Macheda, above, has made six appearances for United this season, scoring one goal, and manager Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to give the former Lazio youth player, who has been with United since he was 17, some more experience. Macheda is due at Loftus Road today to watch Rangers’ home game against Norwich, but he is likely to make his debut in the FA Cup against MK Dons on Saturday.
In other transfer speculation, the Daily Mail claims Everton are showing interest in Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson, although acknowledges the Republic of Ireland international "may stay at Old Trafford until United boss Sir Alex Ferguson can bring in reinforcements".
The Sun, meanwhile, wonder if Sir Alex Ferguson could be in hot water for his comments after the Reds' defeat to Blackburn on New Year's Eve. The boss questioned whether Mike Dean's award of a penalty kick, which led to Rovers' opening goal, was correct.
