Papers: Baines deal close?

Jeremy Cross writes in the Daily Star...

United close in on Baines
Manchester United are closing in on a £16million deal to land England and Everton star Leighton Baines. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson made Baines one of his main summer targets and hopes to complete the deal before the end of this week. Fergie views Baines as United’s long-term successor to Patrice Evra at left-back and is hoping to sign him in time to take him on the club’s summer tour of South Africa and China next week. It’s understood United will pay an initial £12m for Baines, which could rise by another £4m depending on add-ons. Toffees boss David Moyes is reluctant to sell Baines, but knows he cannot turn down such a tempting offer or persuade the defender to stay at Goodison Park.

Elsewhere, the Daily Star claim United have revived interest in Sao Paulo starlet Lucas Moura, while The Mirror report Nemanja Vidic will join the Reds for the European leg of the DHL pre-season tour.

Nani is rumoured in The Express to have opened talks with the club to extend his current deal and there's also coverage of Ji-sung Park's move to Queens Park Rangers.
