Hot Rod's the new Nani
Manchester United will move to sign Porto winger James Rodriguez - if Nani’s contract talks break down. The Red Devils are becoming increasingly frustrated by Nani’s failure to commit his future to the club, even though his current deal does not expire until the summer of 2014. United have offered him a substantial pay rise taking his weekly wages to £130,000 a week. But the deposed Premier League champions have already made contingency plans by lining up £20m-rated Colombian star Rodriguez. The 20-year-old livewire winger has impressed United’s scouts with his progress since signing from Argentinian side Club Atletico Banfield two years ago.
The Guardian claims another South American, Rafael, will commit his future to United by signing a new four-year contract in the near future. The report also claims that his twin brother, Fabio, will join QPR on loan next season.
Following yesterday's Premier League fixtures announcement, The Guardian insists United's bid to regain the title is already at a disadvantage, with five away games following Champions League group matches.
In Euro 2012 news, Wayne Rooney is expected to partner United team-mate Danny Welbeck in England's crunch meeting with Ukraine on Tuesday evening. Rio Ferdinand, for one, backs the move, telling The Sun: “They remind me of when Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole were together at United. Both Wayne and Danny are also explosive players who can do something out of nothing."
