Hot Rod: Fergie scouts Porto winger Rodriguez
Manchester United scouted Porto winger James Rodriguez on Sunday - to make it the seventh time they have watched him this season. United scouts saw the 21-year-old Colombian forward score against Academica de Coimbra. Porto insist they do not want to sell and he has a £24m buy-out clause in his contract. It is believed they are eyeing him up as a potential replacement if Portuguese winger Nani leaves Old Trafford this season after turning down a new deal.
Rio Ferdinand will make a decision on a one-year contract in the summer, says The Sun. The paper quotes an interview with Inside United in which Rio said: “The best thing I can do is to look at it at Christmas, and then again in the summer to see how I’m feeling and go from there.”
Ferdinand also praises United’s medical department in the Mirror for halting the spate of injuries that were a feature of his early thirties. “I’ve not spoken about my injuries because there haven’t been any,” he says. “It’s testament to the club and the medical and science department for helping me along.”
Sticking with injuries, The Sun warns: “United in Robin crock sweat”, which is tabloid-speak for concern over Robin van Persie’s fitness after a thigh strain forced him to pull out of the Netherlands squad to face Germany on Wednesday.
