Phil Jones is looking forward to a reunion with the man who gave him his chance in the Barclays Premier League on Wednesday night, but there will be no sentiment involved as the Reds look to edge a step closer to a 20th league title.
Jones worked under West Ham boss Sam Allardyce at Blackburn Rovers and handed the United defender his league debut back in March 2010.
The pair will be in opposition on Wednesday night at Upton Park when Allardyce’s Hammers entertain Jones and his Reds team-mates, who are expecting a typically tough test.
“They have got height in their team like Stoke and we know it’s a difficult place to go but I’m sure, if we have the right mind-set like we did going into the Stoke game, we’ll be fine,” Jones told ManUtd.com.
“It was great to play under Sam. I owe him a lot. He gave me my chance in Premier League football and he’s a fantastic manager and a great person as well. It will be nice to see him again.”
