"I just think it’s a good combination – fresh inspiration - as it’s not the same and, again, David De Gea just has to sharpen the pencil a little bit."

Schmeichel has faith in De Gea

United great Peter Schmeichel believes that working with a new goalkeeping coach Chris Woods can bring a fresh perspective to David De Gea's game.

The Spanish shot-stopper was outstanding last term, earning a place in the PFA Team of the Season and a first Barclays Premier League winners' medal, and was taught the nuances of English football by Eric Steele. With ex-England international Woods now overseeing the 22-year-old's development, Schmeichel admits he is comfortable with the situation between the sticks.

"I'd like to see more of the same from David De Gea," Reds ambassador Schmeichel informed "He's got to work with a new coach and I think it's a big thing.

"Chris Woods was from my time and has always been a gentleman and was a fantastic goalkeeper himself. He's worked really well with Everton and will have a different way of doing things to add to the experience and mental strength that David has acquired over the last two years.

"I just think it's a good combination - fresh inspiration - as it's not the same and, again, he just has to sharpen the pencil a little bit.

"He'll have a couple of fresh eyes looking at him every day and Chris will report back to the manager. David will realise he has to work hard and we know he is a hard worker so I've got absolutely no problems with him in goal. In fact, I'm comfortable."
