Fergie salutes hero De Gea
Sir Alex Ferguson piled praise on David De Gea after he inspired Manchester United to a battling draw in the Bernabeu. The Spanish keeper returned to Madrid and produced a string of outstanding saves as Fergie's men secured an impressive 1-1 draw in their crunch Champions League showdown. Former Atletico Madrid keeper De Gea was in sparkling form as United found themselves under immense pressure. Fergie said: "He (De Gea) has been improving all season. There was one save in the first half which he touched onto the post, it was superb. I'm pleased for him because he's a former Atletico boy playing here in Madrid. He has done well."
The Sun gave De Gea their 'star man' vote with a rating of eight out of ten, while the Telegraph's Henry Winter writes: "If David De Gea continues to keep goal as defiantly, athletically and occasionally as unorthodoxly as this, United will continue to progress towards Wembley."
However, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is still confident of halting the Reds in the return leg at Old Trafford. “I am expecting a very strong opponent with very good players, but I am confident and 100 per cent sure we can do this,” he says.
