Papers: Reds seek keeper?

The Daily Mail's David Kent writes...

Begovic and Reina in Fergie's sights

Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to call time on David De Gea's career at Old Trafford as he seeks a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window. The Manchester United boss has grown frustrated at the Spaniard's lack of commanding physical presence in the 18-yard box and wants a replacement who is eligible to play in Europe. Fergie has asked United chief executive David Gill and the club's owners to stump up the cash for a new No 1. Stoke's Asmir Begovic and Liverpool's Pepe Reina are two options the club are considering - and both are eligible to play in the Champions League. However, Sir Alex's task is made difficult due to the fact Begovic has been one of Stoke's star performers this year - but Reina's future at Anfield is less certain.

Joe Cole is quoted in several papers extolling the qualities of Reds striker Robin van Persie after the Dutchman grabbed an equaliser against Cole's new, and old, club. “Take away Messi and Ronaldo and he’s probably the best player in the world," Cole says. "He is different class and in his prime. He is hard to stop and is just sublime. He is a joy to watch and a pain to play against."

The Daily Star reports that Hull are closing in on signing young Reds winger Robbie Brady. The Irishman is reported by the paper to be valued at £2m and Tigers boss Steve Bruce is said to have had an offer accepted by United.
