United want Juventus playmaker Marchisio
Nani could hold the key to Manchester United’s summer bid for Italy star Claudio Marchisio. Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants the Juventus playmaker to add creativity to his midfield next season and is preparing a £20m bid. The new Serie A champions have strength in depth in the middle of the park with Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba. But coach Antonio Conte is seeking to reinforce other departments, with a new forward and a winger at the top of his wish-list. The Turin club failed to lure the Portuguese winger last year and Sir Alex Ferguson has stated he wants to keep him at Old Trafford. But Nani has only one year left on his contract and failure to soon agree a new deal could see him used as part of the deal to bring in Marchisio. The Juventus player has told friends, who earns £2.5m a year, has told friends he would be willing to move to the Premier League if the two clubs agree terms.
In the Daily Mail, Neil Ashton has focused on Wilfried Zaha, saying the young forward “has a chance this week to prove that Sir Alex Ferguson was right to pay Crystal Palace £15million to sign him in January.” Ashton also states how Darren Ferguson had a key role to play in the transfer, claiming the Peterborough boss recommended Zaha to his dad after watching him this term.
Elsewhere, many of today’s papers feature quotes attributed to Robin van Persie after the Dutchman told Inside United that he is “floating on a cloud” after winning the title. This story was first published online by ManUtd.com on Monday.
