"He was an example to us to see how you should really work in training and, no matter how talented you are, that you have to put the effort in. He was a prime example for us young lads to watch and grow up and learn off."

Welcome back Eric!

Paul Scholes is looking forward to welcoming Eric Cantona back to Old Trafford, and secretly hopes the Frenchman steals some of the limelight.

The former Reds midfielder, who retired at the end of the 2010/11 season, is looking forward to his testimonial against New York Cosmos on Friday but admits Cantona's "stature and presence" will ensure the Gallic genius grabs plenty of the attention.

With the match already sold out and being shown live on MUTV, it promises to be a special atmosphere at the Theatre of Dreams as fans express their appreciation for the one-club man's distinguished service for the Reds.

"He's probably the reason we've sold the tickets," joked Scholes to MUTV. "It will mean a lot to the fans as obviously he was a massive idol here and it's somebody all our fans absolutely love.

"I think it's great that he's coming back in a different role from being a player and everyone's looking forward to it.

"He was brilliant. He was an example to us to see how you should really work in training and, no matter how talented you are, that you have to put the effort in. He was a prime example for us young lads to watch and grow up and learn off."

Scholes has no doubts Cantona will be a success in his new career at the Cosmos, as the former United no.7 oversees matters at the New York outfit.

"It's like any of us, with any football I suppose, if we're playing every week, we want to be the best. If you leave football and want to be a coach, you want to be the best coach. You want to be the best at everything you do and Eric certainly seems to be very good at whatever he tries to do."

Paul Scholes has given an exclusive lengthy interview to MUTV ahead of his testimonial match on Friday.
