Adnan made his competitive United debut as a substitute in the Community Shield win against Wigan at Wembley after impressing during Rio Ferdinand's Testimonial against Sevilla and on the pre-season tour. There was place for the young forward in the Reds’ Champions League squad, but David Moyes explained that Januzaj’s place would only become a formality after the first two group games when Adnan would be illegible for the 'B' list of players. Instead, he was temporarily named in the Under-19 UEFA Youth League squad.
Januzaj made his Barclays Premier League debut on 14 September as a substitute in United's 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. The player was thrilled that his family were at the game to support him. "My dad and my mum were there. They want the best for me and, naturally, they want to see me play every game! It's my first match so they were really happy for me."
