Having appeared in all seven of United’s pre-season fixtures, starting five of them, Anderson was also involved in the Reds’ opening three domestic fixtures. The midfielder made two substitute appearances against Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield and Swansea in the league.
The Brazilian had to make do with the solitary starting place during the second month of the campaign, in the 2-1 home reverse to West Brom. Anderson was unlucky not to score after seeing his headed effort crash off the crossbar. Anderson was in bullish mood after the match, calling for a positive response and imploring his team-mates to "show character" in the matches ahead.
The Reds’ no.8 spent most of October on the sidelines through injury. He did, however, make a brief cameo against Norwich in the Capital One Cup at the tail-end of the month.
Having returned from injury, November proved a quiet one for the bustling midfielder, who was restricted to only four substitute appearances, including a brief cameo in the 5-0 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen.
