Welbeck’s improved hold-up play, strength and finishing ability were rewarded with a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, and he went on to score England’s winner against Sweden at the Euro 2012 finals in Kiev.
A new four-year contract followed in August 2012 with Danny saying upon signing it: "Playing for United is all I’ve ever wanted to do. I’m learning all
the time from the best manager in the game and I’m keen for that to continue alongside the world class players in the squad."
