However, arguably his most important contribution of the month came in the final game away at Norwich where, after a tough first period, the young Mancunian came on as a second-half substitute to add more balance to the front line and provide a link between Javier Hernandez and the midfield. It was a shrewd move from Moyes, whose opportunism was rewarded when Danny slotted home the winning goal with aplomb. Welbeck's fine performances made him a contender for the Player of the Month award, but he was pipped to it by Rooney.

January 2014
Welbeck’s good goalscoring form continued into the New Year as he was on target against Tottenham in the first fixture of 2014. He also got the second in the 2-0 win over Swansea, taking his tally to nine for the season and giving him six in his previous nine appearances.

February 2014
Injury restricted Danny’s February involvement for the Reds. His two appearances from the bench against Stoke and Olympiacos were the Longsight-born forward’s only outings for Moyes’ men.

March 2014
