Keane was an important part of Warren Joyce’s Under-21s defence, particularly given the valuable experience he picked up while on loan at Leicester last season. He also helped the Reserves retain the Lancashire Senior Cup against Manchester City.
Keane notched his first goal for England's Under-21s when he opened the scoring in a 4-0 win over San Marino. He followed that up by netting a superb late equaliser from outside the box during the young Reds’ 2-2 draw against Fulham.
Keane had a busy month, playing for the Under-21s against Stoke and scoring twice for England at the same age level, against Finland and San Marino. On 28 November he agreed to move to Derby County on loan until early January.
Michael began with three substitute appearances as the Rams, under the guidance of former United assistant manager and England coach Steve McClaren, surged up the Championship. His first start came in the Boxing Day draw with Huddersfield, and he retained his place for the win at Barnsley two days later.
