Didier Deschamps, who was admittedly a big influence: "He transmitted to me the bug of winning at any price."

After arriving at Old Trafford, Evra made his debut during a 3-1 Manchester derby defeat at Eastlands and struggled for form until the 2006/07 campaign, when the French star helped United win the Premier League and claimed a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

The left-back berth became his own and, aided by consistency, only eight games were missed during the triumphant 2007/08 season when the Champions League, as well as another title, were added to his burgeoning personal collection.

A four-year contract entension followed in June prior to securing a hat-trick of championship crowns during the following term, also helping the Reds break the top-flight clean sheet record in the process.

Wayne Rooney was the star throughout the 2009/10 season, but Evra's achievement of starting 37 of 38 league fixtures didn't go unnoticed: he earned yet another place in the Team of the Year after captaining the Reds to Carling Cup glory in February.
