Amsterdam-born left-winger Gyliano van Velzen joined United in November 2010 from former club Ajax.
He is a tall, athletic, pacy and skilful wide player, and he is also capable of playing up front, as he did during the 2010/11 campaign when first-choice forwards Will Keane and John Cofie were out injured.
The following season was one of progress for the leggy forward with only Tyler Blackett making more appearances at youth level. The Dutchman scored eight times and was outstanding in the FA Youth Cup win at Swansea. Gaining in confidence all the time, his solo runs started to have an end product in
terms of assists and strikes on goal.
Warren Joyce handed him three substitute appearances for the Reserves, which provided a taste of football at that level ahead of his expected elevation into the squad.
