Son of former England international Nick and an impressive contributor at Academy level for the Reds before moving up to Under-21 level.
Most at home on the left flank, he is also capable of playing in attack and shone at the Milk Cup in 2011 with a string of superb performances and a couple of eye-catching goals.
Scoring in every round of the FA Youth Cup en route to the semi-final defeat against Chelsea, he earned a first call-up at England Under-18 level in March and was short-listed for the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award.
Capable of producing the spectacular out of nothing, he supplied some outstanding moments during the 2011/2012 campaign and finished as comfortably the top scorer with 13 goals.
A threat whether out wide or playing down the middle, he was called into the England Under-19 squad at the start of the following season. A return of three goals at league level was perhaps indicative of his fulfilling of a deeper role and he even performed at wing-back in one clash with Chelsea.
