A young keeper with plenty of potential, he was formerly with Crewe Alexandra and always looks comfortable with the ball at his feet.
The 6ft youngster joined the Reds in 2006 and was one of five shot-stoppers used by Paul McGuinness over the course of the 2011/2012 season but played exclusively in the FA Youth Cup run which was a testament to his talents.
At the start of the 2012/2013 campaign, he was included in Noel Blake's England Under-19 squad and he is held in high regard by both club and country. By breaking into Warren Joyce's Under-21 set-up, he is making fine progress and was on the bench for the final victory against Tottenham at Old Trafford last May.
Sutherland signed on as a third-year scholar in time for the 2013/2014 season and will hope for more opportunities to display his shot-stopping prowess.
