Stewart savours special day

Having received an England under-19s call-up and bagged his first Reserves goal of the season, Cameron Stewart was delighted with a productive day's work on Thursday.

The flying winger was on song as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side overran Bury in the Manchester Senior Cup, and he could barely contain his glee after a memorable few hours.

"It’s been a while since I scored," Cameron told MUTV. "Ole kept telling me I wouldn’t score! It took a while for Anderson to score too, but today I’ve done it and I’m pleased with that.

"Getting the England call-up as well set me off on a high - I’ve been buzzing a bit. It’s a bit of a confidence boost to be fair. I don’t get many goals at all nowadays, never mind left footed!"

The Reds' eye-catching start to their Senior Cup defence extended an impressive run of form, and Stewart admits that there is a mood of steely focus among the second string.

"The key was to get a quick start, and all the boys did well," he said. "The defence kept a clean sheet, the midfielders did their job and the strikers put the goals in, so overall it was a good team performance.

"We hope to keep it going, we hope we can go unbeaten. Last year we did alright and came second in the league, this year we want to top it all off and win everything."
