Longford right-back Noel Haverty was having great difficulty containing the threat of Daehli down the left, and the Norwegian almost set up a second for United three minutes before the break. However, Hyland again was able to keep out Gladstony's low shot.
Agnaldo, on as a half-time substitute for Tom Lawrence, made an immediate impact when he set up Joshua King down the right channel in the first minute of the second half, but the impressive Hyland again denied United with a save at the near post. Town were regularly creating chances of their own, and, in the 53rd minute, substitute Tony Griffiths slipped past Fornasier with a fine piece of control, but his instinctive second-touch volley whistled over the bar. Griffiths then went close on the hour with a sharp header from Purdy’s corner, which United wide man Daehli was able to hack away at the back post.
An unmarked Agnaldo really should have made it 2-0 to United in the 82nd minute when he was picked out on the penalty spot by King’s deft chip from the right touchline. Hyland saved the first effort with legs, then the Brazilian sliced his second effort wide under minimal pressure.
