U21s set for Upton Park

United's Under-21s will face their West Ham counterparts at Upton Park on Friday night.

The senior side have visited the East London ground once this season, securing a dramatic late draw in the FA Cup third round, with the Barclays Premier League fixture still to be rearranged.

Warren Joyce has spoken of his desire for his youngsters to experience playing in top-flight stadia and the league encounter is another opportunity for them to impress after a hard-fought 1-0 win at Liverpool on Monday.

Versatile Jeff Schlupp (pictured), who is on trial from Leicester, helped make up for a shortage of available strikers against the Merseysiders with a powerful display and should be in contention to feature again. Tom Thorpe performed at centre-back with Tom Lawrence drafted into midfield and Larnell Cole moved to a central position to cover the absence of Ryan Tunnicliffe, following his loan switch to Barnsley.

United can move up to second in the table with a victory while West Ham, who won Group One to qualify for this Elite phase, are currently in fifth spot after two wins and three defeats.

The action is live on MUTV with kick-off at 7pm.
