U21s welcome Norwich to OT

Manchester United's Under-21s will hope to put on another show at Old Trafford in the final home game of the Barclays U21 Premier League season against Norwich City this evening.

The home crowd enjoyed three stunning strikes against Aston Villa last time out at Old Trafford before a 1-0 win at Tottenham increased the likelihood that the Reds' campaign will be extended by virtue of securing a place in the semi-finals.

James Wilson ploughed a lone furrow in attack at White Hart Lane, scoring with his only shot on target, and the striker is likely to spearhead the team's attack once again. The 18-year-old was set the target of scoring in the last four league games by Reserves coach Warren Joyce and is halfway to achieving that aim.

"There is no doubt he is a special talent," enthused Joyce on MUTV. "I watched the UEFA Youth League Under-19 semi-finals on Friday and there are no players there with the same qualities he has, that is for sure. He has just got to keep working away and we've got to keep working to develop him. He finishes well and does a good job for the team as well."

Paddy McNair and Charni Ekangamene formed a formidable defensive barrier at Spurs despite neither being natural centre-backs but, with Guillermo Varela receiving several stitches in a head wound, there is unlikely to be much room for manoeuvre at the back.

"McNair has been tremendous," commented Joyce. "He came to the club as a no.10 but we have had no centre-halves." Saidy Janko switched to right-back when Varela was substituted in the capital with James Weir coming off the bench to bolster the midfield.
