natural defensive qualities, Tom is also assured and composed on the ball and a good passer. He is capable of bringing the ball out of defence and also offers an aerial threat from set-pieces in the opposition box.

Some injury niggles did not help his cause at the start of the 2011/2012 season but he must have been one of the first names on the team sheets in the following term and even hit one of the team's goals of the season away to Spurs. Since then, his only real lay-off came during a first loan spell away from the club at Birmingham City in 2014.

The ankle-ligament injury, sustained in the early stages of his debut for the Midlanders, was terrible timing but he returned in order to play a part in the season finale for the Under-21s and his increasing maturity has impressed coach Warren Joyce.

Formerly captain of his country at England Under-19 level, he was named as part of Peter Taylor's squad for the Under-20 World Cup and has also been capped at Under-21 level, continuing to make steady progression.
