U18s: Leeds 4 United 4
United and Leeds' academy sides shared eight goals in an entertaining game at Thorp Arch, training ground of the Yorkshire club.
As in the 4-4 draw between Chelsea and Liverpool in the Champions League, there were goals among the eight to be admired but also some goalkeeping gaffes to be forgotten.
The opener was well crafted by the Reds after just three minutes, centre-half Scott Wootton heading home Danny Galbraith's cross following a short corner by Oliver Norwood. But Leeds' equaliser came when Conor Devlin failed to hold a high ball in from the left and then brought down an opponent in the area as he tried to retrieve the situation. Will Hatfield made him pay with an unstoppable penalty into the top right-hand corner.
Leeds were 2-1 ahead at half-time after central defender Adam Watson powered in a header from a driven right-wing free-kick. It was a lead they probably deserved, having dominated the first period, outpassing the Reds at times on a bone-dry pitch.
Reds coach Paul McGuinness rang the changes at half-time and shortly afterwards, to send on Irish winger Robbie Brady and Norwegian striker Joshua King. Both substitutes made a quick impact as the game was turned on its head.
