U18s: Spurs 1 United 3
United's Under-18s picked up a first win of the season with a comfortable victory over Tottenham, thanks to first-half goals from John Cofie, Robbie Brady and Josh King.
It took the Reds two minutes to open the scoring, Nicky Ajose played the ball through for Cofie who held off a defender before firing low into the far corner. It got even better with ten minutes on the clock; King won possession deep in Tottenham's half before releasing Ajose down the right. His low cross was mis-hit by Ryan Tunnicliffe but fell to Brady who lashed the ball into the roof of the net.
It was one-way traffic and Tunnicliffe almost added a third after 20 minutes. Ajose was again the creator, his cross finding the Bury-born midfielder unmarked in the centre only for his header to drop inches wide with the goalkeeper beaten. The Reds didn't have to wait much longer for goal three, as King latched on to a Cofie flick-on, calmly rounded the goalkeeper and slid the ball into the empty net to put the game beyond doubt for Paul McGuinness' side.
Spurs rarely threatened in the remainder of the first half, although Conor Devlin had to be alert to deny Harry Kane from distance. But shortly after the restart they did respond, Paul McBride's jinking run took him into the penalty area and
