The Under-18s breezed past Derby with an excellent first-half display that had all but secured all three points to keep the young Reds flying high at the top of the Premier Academy League Group C.
United are a team full of confidence right now, and showed it with an attacking verve in the first 45 minutes that Derby could not contend with.
Paul McGuinness' young chargres went ahead after ten minutes. Paul Pogba found John Cofie on the edge of the area and the England youth international twisted and turned to create space for Ravel Morrison who, after one touch to tee-up his shot, rifled the ball into the bottom corner.
United's second arrived on 19 minutes after a fantastic team move. Larnell Cole's flick found Michele Fornasier, whose ball down the right touchline sent Cofie clear. He picked out Joshua King in the box and the Norwegian coolly finished at the far post.
Cofie then had a goal disallowed on 35 minutes. The linesman ruled that King's touch past the onrushing keeper, which was collected by Cofie, subsequently rendered the striker offside. It was a tight call because the game would have been over had it been given.
