WEST BROMWICH ALBION 3
MANCHESTER UNITED 0
United's Under-18s were overpowered by West Bromwich Albion's powerful strikeforce.
The Baggies, whose team included players with first-team experience, found the early breakthrough when Kayleden Brown teed up a close-range finish for Chris Wood.
New Zealand-born Wood has already had first-team experience - the 18-year-old forward made two Premier League appearances last season for West Brom.
The strike-partners then switched roles, with Wood playing in Brown, who fired past Reds goalkeeper Sam Johnstone with his left foot to send the Baggies in 2-0 up at the break.
United were unlucky as the Reds' own powerful front men, John Cofie and Joshua King, were desperately unlucky not to pull a goal back after both forwards hit the woodwork.
In the first half, Cofie received the ball 40 yards from goal and surged forward before cracking a shot off the base of the post.
Then in the second half King went on his own rampaging run before seeing his shot rattle the crossbar.
