It seemed a moment of magic may be required to break the deadlock and that duly arrived just before the hour mark. Saidy Janko received the ball on the right and played a simple pass to Andreas Pereira who found himself a yard of space and unleashed a stunning drive into the top corner.
Things got even better for the Reds on 72 minutes thanks to another superb effort. Having collected the ball from a throw-in inside his own half, Wilson battled past a crowd of Burnley defenders as he embarked on a run oozing pace and power. Leaving defenders trailing in his wake, Wilson reached the area before rounding the goalkeeper and calmly slotting home.
The home side were not about to give up though and were thankful for Evans' excellent defending after Frost found himself clean through on goal thanks to Burnley substitute Ntumba Massanka's defence-splitting pass. Despite a flurry of late corners and a great save from Joel Pereira, United held out and will now face either Leicester City or Rotherham United in the fourth round.
