Butt’s side had to weather something of a mini Spanish storm midway through the second half but stood firm to record the win and, just as pleasingly, a clean sheet.
"We know there will be times during the 90 minutes when we'll be under pressure but it's all about how you deal with the pressure. I thought our defenders did well and our midfielders protected them.
“Our goalkeeper made a few great saves as well. It was a great all-round defensive performance. We stayed tight, we stayed narrow, we didn't let them pass the ball through us too often. I felt we were comfortable.”
This performance will have done the U19s’ confidence the world of good and Butt says the aim now is to gain maximum points from the remaining fixtures.
“We have two games left and we want to win both games. We're more than capable of it. We have nothing to be afraid of – Shakhtar and Leverkusen are both good teams but if we play to our potential we can win those games.”
