Boss on MLS loan option

Sir Alex Ferguson has not ruled out sending a player to the MLS on loan, although he admits his preference is to keep his charges closer to home.

United tend to farm youngsters out to English sides but there have been plenty of examples of deals with clubs from farther afield - including Bebe's move to Besiktas this summer.

"At the end of the day, that's something that's some way off," he admitted, when asked about the prospect of loaning somebody to the US. "Convincing a young player to go so far away could be a problem. We like to try and keep our players as near to us as possible so we can monitor them.

"Last year, we put Federico Macheda in Italy and it didn't turn out well because Sampdoria had relegation trouble and changed their coach. He ended up not playing many games, which was disappointing. I'm not against it, but it would be entirely up to the player himself to decide if he would find it worthwhile. Certainly the standard of the game has risen. There's no problem with that side of things. It would be a good experience for some of them."
