Video: Cole recalls Oz tour

Manchester United’s stars are in for a trip of a lifetime next summer, if former Red Andy Cole’s experience in 1999 is anything to go by.

The team travelled Down Under just six weeks after winning the Treble for a pre-season tour that took in games in Melbourne and Sydney. This time it’s one game only - against an A-League All Stars side in Sydney on 20 July - as part of Tour 2013, presented by Aon. Cole expects Sir Alex’s men to face a stern test on the pitch.

“Players are very physical in Australia, they’re good athletes. We had the same in 1999 – we had two very tough games. But we got what we needed to get out of that trip and that was fitness.

“I have very good memories [of the trip]. It was my first time in Australia and we had a great time there. It was a beautiful place. We were fortunate to go to Sydney and Melbourne, the two major cities.

"People talk about certain places but to see them for ourselves... we enjoyed it when we had the chance to get out. To go around Sydney Harbour on a yacht was really special.”
