Treble winner Dwight Yorke was in Sydney on Monday to represent United at the press conference to announce the Reds' one and only tour match Down Under.
The former Reds' striker spent a season with Sydney FC in 2005/06 and has fond memories of the Australian city which will host United's friendly against the A-League All Stars on 20 July at the ANZ Stadium. Press reporters and TV crews were in attendance for the press conference on Monday along with a number of key figures who have been involved in organising the game. NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell said there is already great excitement about United's visit to Sydney, particularly as this will be the Reds' only game in Oz during Tour 2013, presented by Aon.
"I’m delighted that the NSW Government’s agency, Destination NSW, in partnership with ANZ Stadium, has won an Australian and New Zealand exclusive to host Manchester United in NSW, the home of world class sport," he said. “United will play a not-to-be-missed match against an A-League All Stars team at ANZ Stadium. I’m looking forward to welcoming United back to Sydney, their first visit to NSW since 1999, and the match against our A-League team promises to be an exhilarating contest.”
