Evans getting up to speed

Jonny Evans admits the start of pre-season is tough for every Manchester United player but knows it’s a case of short-term pain for long-term gain.

United are preparing for the new season in Sydney this week, with double training sessions on most days designed to bring the team up to speed for the new campaign.

The Reds blew off some cobwebs in last weekend’s opening game of Tour 2013, a 1-0 defeat in hot and humid conditions to a Singha All Star XI in Bangkok.

But Jonny revealed a lot of work had already been done at the Aon Training Complex the week before the tour started.

"It has been tough," he told us. "The first week back in was pretty hard and, after the first couple of days, a few of the lads were struggling to move.

"But that’s what it’s all about and we want to get as fit as possible before the season."
