Duo join Reds in Sydney

Robin van Persie and David De Gea have joined Manchester United in Sydney for the 2013 Tour presented by Aon.

Both players missed the first leg of the summer trip, in Bangkok, having been granted extended leave due to international commitments in June.

But the pair reported for duty at the Reds' Sydney hotel on Sunday afternoon, shortly after the rest of the playing staff (now 20-strong) arrived from Bangkok.

The news is a big boost for United fans in Australia, Japan and Hong Kong, who will miss out on seeing Wayne Rooney in action after the striker returned to Manchester last week with a hamstring injury.

Van Persie and De Gea will train with the team for the first time since May in Sydney on Monday morning.
