Kobbie Mainoo has been asked to pick a former Manchester United player he would loved to have played alongside

The 18-year-old, who scored and was voted Man of the Match in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Liverpool, was taking part in our Fans' Q&A series, in association with Melitta.

Kobbie opted for Paul Scholes, a man who won 11 Premier League titles with his boyhood club, and number three on the all-time appearances list.

Scholesy, who turns 50 in November, came out of retirement to extend his career and helped Sir Alex Ferguson's team win the league in 2012/13.

Fans' Q&A: Kobbie Mainoo

FANS' Q&A | Kobbie Mainoo tackles questions on his pre-match meal, love for United, favourite artist and more...

Mainoo, who has been at United since a schoolboy, was only eight when the Reds wrapped up the final championship of Ferguson and Scholes's time at the club, and has always respected the ability and sheer quality of somebody who plays in the same position as him.

"I'd say Paul Scholes," he replied to the question from Rachael B. "Although there might not be a lot defending between the two of us," he laughed. "But, yeah, Scholes. Scholes - definitely.

"[Because of] everything. His passing, his movement, the way he could finish. His intelligence. Yes, he was a great player."

Scholes is now a pundit for TNT Sports and has acknowledged the impact made by Mainoo at the club throughout the campaign, describing him as the "real deal".

Kobbie was keen to explain how he does not look up to one role model in particular, but tries to add elements to his game from a number of different sources.

When quizzed by Rasheed R. from Nigeria on the subject, he declared: "I can't say that I have one. I like to pick different things from different people, whether it’s football players, I pick different things from their games to try and add to mine and stuff.

"So I wouldn’t say I follow one person directly, if you know what I mean? I just try to pick up things as much as I can from other people."
