Thursday 29 April 2021 23:14

Manchester United's 6-2 victory over Roma obviously threw up a number of candidates for Man of the Match but two players were well clear in the voting.

The Official App users had their say in huge numbers but a pair of Reds garnered the vast majority, 85 per cent, of all votes cast.

It came down to a straight fight between Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes.

Cavani scored twice, set up Fernandes's opener and supplied a beautiful pass for substitute Mason Greenwood to add the coup de grace with the sixth strike. The Uruguayan was also fouled by former United centre-back Chris Smalling in the penalty incident.

Bruno, as he so often does, converted that spot-kick to make it 4-2, and claim his second of the game after a clinically taken effort in the ninth minute gave United the perfect start. Roma rallied to win 2-1 but our leading scorer had other ideas and also finished with two assists, one for Cavani's first at the start of the second half, and the other an inviting ball for Paul Pogba's header.

Cavani collected 55 per cent in our poll to finish clear of Fernandes, who was on 30 per cent.

It is a third Man of the Match success for Edi this month, after he also won the award in the win at Tottenham and at home to Granada.
