Martinez ‘getting closer’ to United return

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has issued an update regarding his recovery from the season-ending injury that curtailed his 2022/23 campaign.

Licha was withdrawn from our first-leg tie against Sevilla in the quarter-final of the Europa League in April, and it was later revealed that he fractured a metatarsal bone in his foot.

The injury subsequently ruled him out the remainder of our season, but now the Argentine is edging closer to his return to first-team action.

In an Instagram post, Licha provided a positive update for fans ahead of next month’s pre-season tour.

“Getting closer,” is the English translation of his message.

It may be short, but it is a statement that is sure to provide plenty of optimism for our supporters.

Licha has been putting in the work at Carrington following successful surgery, with the aim of being back in time for the start of the Reds' pre-season tour of the USA.

The Argentina international previously said his rehabilitation has “went really well” and there is no doubt Erik ten Hag will want him back as soon as possible.

Our no.6 adorned himself to Reds fans since his transfer to the club last year, with his defensive prowess and passion evident.

Good luck for the remainder of your recovery, Licha.
