Rashford and Hojlund score as England and Denmark win

Not one but two Manchester United strikers were on target for their nations on Tuesday night, in the form of Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund.

In the second half of England's Euro 2024 clash with Italy at Wembley, and with the sides locked at 1-1 following first-half goals from Gianluca Scamacca and Harry Kane, Rashford darted into the box off the left before arrowing the ball into the bottom corner.

It was a trademark goal from the United no.10 and showed the same pace, power and precision we have become accustomed to seeing from him.

Rashford's finish was added to by a late run from Kane, to get his second of the game, as England saw out the win and sealed their place at Euro 2024.

Also starting in the match, and playing the full 90 minutes, was Reds defender Harry Maguire, who was composed and assured throughout as the England rearguard recovered from Scamacca's early finish to thwart any future opportunities for the visitors.

It wasn't just Rashford, however, who found the back of the net on Tuesday, with his United team-mate Hojlund also getting on the scoresheet, for Denmark.

The 20-year-old, who arrived at Old Trafford in the summer, found a yard of space in the box before rasping a fierce left-footed effort into the roof of the net to open the scoring in the first half of the Euro 2024 qualifier against San Marino.

Fellow Danish Red Christian Eriksen started too, and looked as composed as ever as Denmark dominated and deservedly led at the break.

San Marino's Alessandro Golinucci drew the hosts level after half-time, but Yussuf Poulsen restored the visitors' lead on the hour mark. Denmark won the match 2-1 to remain second in qualification Group H, four points above third-placed Kazakhstan.

Elsewhere, United's Jonny Evans captained Northern Ireland as they fell to a 1-0 home defeat to Slovenia. His Reds team-mate Scott McTominay wore the armband for Scotland, as they were beaten 3-1 by France.

After the exploits of United captain Bruno Fernandes in particular during this international break, the sight of both Rashford and Hojlund finding the net will no doubt be another welcome sight for our fans ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
