Ten Hag: Mount's injury is only minor

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says Mason Mount's injury is not serious and he expects the midfielder to play again before the Premier League campaign ends.

The summer signing from Chelsea has been dogged with bad luck since joining the club but started the defeat at Crystal Palace last time out.

Although this fresh setback means he will miss Sunday's home clash with title-chasing Arsenal, the manager will hopefully have more options in the middle of the park as Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay both trained on Friday morning.

And Mount should be fine to feature again at some point, with the Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City on the horizon.

The boss provides a mixed update on injured players from Carrington.

"It's a minor issue," Ten Hag told MUTV's Mark Sullivan in our exclusive pre-match interview.

"So he's definitely not out for the season. I think a couple of days, then he'll return.

"Maybe Newcastle [next Wednesday] is too short but I think he can be available for Brighton [in our final match of the league season]."

Mount's absence has been sorely felt across the season as a whole but the boss feels it is simply unfortunate that he has not been able to get a regular run of games.

"I am very happy with Mason and he is also a very robust player," Ten Hag said during his press conference.

"You see in his profile, he played in the last four seasons, this is the fifth, he only had one small issue at the end of his Chelsea career.

"Before that, he played almost all the games for three seasons after each other. Even with three days' turnaround, he always played.

"I think it is really bad luck and he is a good player. We really missed him across the season because he absolutely would have made a contribution to our levels."
