U18s: Newcastle v United

Saturday 13 January 2024 14:45

Manchester United's Under-18s kicked off 2024 with a victory, defeating Newcastle United 3-1 in the U18 Premier League.

After a goalless first half, where chances were at a premium, the match came to life in the second 45 minutes.

Ethan Williams scored the opening goal in the north-east - rifling an edge-of-the-box strike into the bottom right corner just before the hour mark to put Adam Lawrence's side ahead.

United were ahead until the 78th minute, when an unfortunate Jack Kingdon own goal brought the hosts level.

But within two minutes of the equaliser, Ashton Missin surged to the edge of the box and, after his first attempt was blocked, found the bottom left corner.

Jayce Fitzgerald made sure of the win in the dying seconds, latching onto a ball in behind and slotting into the bottom right corner, ensuring we warmed up for our midweek FA Youth Cup tie against Swindon Town with a victory.

Jayce Fitzgerald celebrates his late goal on Tyneside.
