Patrice Evra has revealed which of his former Manchester United team-mates was chosen to be the godfather of his son.

Our Champions League-winning left back became a dad for the fifth time in May and his Instagram followers will have noted the cute photos Patrice has regularly been posting of baby Lilas, on what is already a busy and popular account.

Prior to the birth, the 40-year-old hinted that he was going to ask Ji-sung Park to be godparent, as a reflection of the strong friendship the two built while playing together for the Reds between 2006 and 2012.

And, while answering questions as part of a recent Fans’ Q&A, Evra confirmed that he had kept his promise.

Fans' Q&A: Patrice Evra talks best friends, captaining United, Cristiano Ronaldo's dream meal and more...

“Because I like shy people!” Patrice responded, when asked by a fan how he became so close to the South Korean midfielder.

“When someone doesn’t open himself up too much, that’s when I go to those people.

“Ji is the godfather to my son, he’s more than a friend. I spoke with him actually this morning so it just came naturally.

“He’s such a humble person but he’s also a funny guy. You don’t see that side, because he only shows it to me. He’s a real brother.”

Park opened up previously on his special bond with Evra, as part of our UTD Unscripted series.

Our former no.13, who is the same age as Patrice, revealed the story of how the pair became close, through living in Alderley Edge, playing the Pro Evolution Soccer video game and sitting together on the way to first-team games.

Their friendship continued even after Park left for QPR in 2012 and the South Korean is proud to call Evra his ‘best friend’.

“Sometimes these days we meet up for lunch or dinner in London or whenever we are in the same place,” Park told us last year.

“We speak on the phone or text each other and we carry on our strong relationship wherever we are.

“Finding him has been one of the great pleasures of my life.

“Patrice was a great team-mate, but honestly it’s more than that; I think he is my best friend in my whole life.”
