Williams: Pre-season has been a great experience

Ro-Shaun Williams is hoping to draw on his experiences with the Manchester United first-team as he heads into another competitive campaign with the Under-23 side.

The defender was one of seven youth players called up to the senior squad for this summer’s Tour 2018, presented by Aon. Williams has told MUTV that the two-and-a-half week trip to the States has been extremely beneficial for his development.

“It’s been a great experience,” Ro-Shaun told us on the penultimate day of the trip. “Being in and around the first team everyday, learning off all the players, training with them and just being around them 24/7, it’s been really good.
Ro-Shaun Williams was among the Academy players who enhanced their educations on Tour 2018.
“I’ve trained with the first-team before and it’s just down to business on the pitch, but off the pitch it’s crazy seeing the fans. Even when we’re arriving to hotels at night, the amount of fans there to see the players is crazy.

“You get to learn but you also get to know the players. Back at the Aon Training Complex there’s a different changing room so I just come in and train with them, but now I’ve got to know the people so it’s good."
As well as training with the senior side, Williams played in the Red’s International Champions Cup friendly against Liverpool.

“It was a fantastic experience,” he said. “Even though the game was gone really it was still nice to get on the pitch and just soak it up.”

With pre-season drawing to a close, the 19-year-old is fully focused ahead of United’s Under-23 campaign, which begins on Friday with a trip to Fulham.
Ro-Shaun Williams says

"This is my first ever full pre-season since I signed for the club at 16, so I’m pleased with myself."

“It’s been good for me to be honest because previously I’ve not had pre-seasons due to injuries, but this is my first ever full pre-season since I signed for the club at 16, so I’m pleased with myself to get through it and now I’m just building myself up.

“Hopefully I’ll have a big season this year with this pre-season and all my injuries behind me, so I’m really looking to push on now.”
